Hello sweet friends! Im back today with an exciting hair tutorial! So as you know I’m a hairstylist, and I think the number one comment people make to me goes something like this. ” I wish I could fix my hair the way you do”, or “Why does my hair never looks as good as when you do it.” Well my friends, today I am here to change that.

The perfectly “undone” look is where the trend is right now, and as far as I’m concerned, I don’t see it changing anytime soon. I mean, just open your Instagram or Pinterest and there it is, that effortless, lived-in, gorgeous head of hair. It can be intimidating to try because there is a fine line between what looks like total bed head, or a scary flash back to your high school prom.

First things first, Good hair doesn’t happen by chance, it happens by good product and a little knowledge of how the hair works. With these two things under your belt, you’ll be amazed at what your hair is capable of. I ALWAYS prep my Damp hair with a heat protectant before blowdrying. Don’t let this go in one ear and out the other, Not using a heat protectant, is equivalent to going and laying out on the beach for 8 hours in August with no sunscreen. Using a blowdryer, flat iron, or curling iron on your hair multiple times a week can take A TOLL on your stands so be sure to pamper them; my favorite is the Kerastase Nectar Thermique Which you can find by clicking here

This is amazing because it protects from heat styling, adds moisture & shine, decreases blow-dry time by 36%, and helps keep the hair healthy! (And yes, it smells amazing too.) My hair totally transformed after adding this into my routine!

Also in damp hair I love to add the Phomollient from Aveda, which you can find by clicking here.  I apply this root to tip, it helps give my fine hair life by plumping up my hair strands. Its great because it adds hold, which helps give hair texture, and keeps the curls from falling out.

Now that my hair has been prepped with the previous two products mentioned, I am ready to dry my hair. I like to use a round brush to blow-dry my hair to help smooth out my natural wave, and to also add volume at my roots! Once my hair is dry Im ready to curl! I use a 1.5 inch curling iron which you can find by clicking here, I have found that with short or long hair, you can never go wrong with that size.

Because my hair is so soft, before curling I like to add a little bit more texture to ensure my hair has enough grip to hold the curl and volume I am going to be creating! Again, this is why product is so important, who wants to waste their time by styling un-prepped hair? Trust me when I say, you will just end up being frustrated due to it not lasting, or not holding the shape you worked so hard to create! With that being said, I am going to be adding the VIP ( VOLUME IN POWDER) spray by Kerastase, Which you can find by clicking here. This is hands down my FAVORITE product. The best way to describe it is, the perfect blend of a dry shampoo and hairspray mixed together. An added bonus is that with its translucent powder finish, it helps your style last a few extra days because it helps absorb oil.

Last But certainly not least, I recommend setting the hair with a good hairspray. My favorite is the Kerastase Laque Extreme Setting spray, Which you can find by clicking here. It has a high hold, but not a hard hold. A Frozen helmet is not the look we are going for, so step away from any hairspray that would do just that. Remember, this look is effortless and beachy! Don’t Ruin it with the wrong hairspray!

Now that we have covered all of the bases on WHAT you will need to achieve this look, be sure to watch the video tutorial I linked above to see HOW to use the curling iron. I hope you feel confident in creating this effortless look! I have no doubt that with a little bit of patience and practice, you will have people asking if you went to the salon to get your hair done!! Thanks for stopping by the farmhouse today! Have fun playing with your new hair and I’ll See you in my next post!

xoxo – Ashley
